COMMENTS:
An upright, slow growing species which is a cross
between B. julianae and B.
thunbergii. An excellent barrier plant with
dark green leaves, spiny twigs and insignificant
yellow flowers. New foliage emerges chartreuse, but
turns dark green or blue-green by Summer. It can be
used in hot, dry areas and is suitable as a hedge
plant. Unlike many other barberries it does not
produce fruit. The fall color is orange to red. If
planted in the shade, it may not develop fall
colors. The thorns are large, so avoid positioning
it where people can be injured by contact with it.
