COMMENTS: This is a plant which deserves pride of place in the border. Best planted in a large group, it attracts many butterflies, hence its common name. The flat-topped blossoms consist of clusters of tiny, star-shaped florets. The stems are stout and branched and it requires a well-drained, sandy soil. As it has a deep taproot it is difficult to transplant, but on the positive side, resists drought. Fascinating canoe-shaped pods appear after blossoming, which turn brownish-red in the fall. It is extremely hardy.
