COMMENTS:
Delicate sprays of 1/4-inch forget-me-not like
florets appear in great abundance above a mound of
rough-textured but neat 6-inch dark green leaves.
This very hardy plant requires moist, but
well-drained, humusy soil in a cool, shady spot.
Spreads via rhizomatous roots. Suggested
cultivars:
B. macrophylla 'Dawson's
White' (Syn:
B. m. 'Variegata') has 6-inch wide,
heart-shaped hairy leaves, green with a broad white
margin, and pretty blue forget-me-not-like flowers
in spring.
B. macrophylla 'Silver
Wings'
is
a sport of B. 'Langtrees' with large
heart-shaped leaves decorated with a silver overlay
and a thin white margin. Many small blue flowers
form a cloud of spring color atop of the
clumps.
Brunnera macrophylla 'Jack Frost' is another
B. 'Langtrees' sport with frosty-silver,
green-veined, and green-edged, 3- to 5-inch-long
leaves. It forms an attractive hosta-like
mound.
