COMMENTS: Introduced in England in 1930, this is a garden gem which provides very welcome late summer color. The silvery-green foliage is light and airy. It is woody shrub, grown as a perennial it can be used as a low hedge along the border, or in a large clump to show this plant to its best. Extremely drought tolerant and young plants bloom the first year. Provide a good soil, enriched with humus and keep moist until it becomes established. Cut to soil level late winter or early spring. Blooms for 4 to 6 weeks or until the frost. Suggested cultivars:
C. clandonensis 'Arthur Simmonds', 1 ft. - 2 ft., has bright blue flowers which provide a striking contrast with the gray-green foliage.
C. clandonensis 'Blue Mist', 2 ft. - 3 ft., has powder-blue flowers and gray-green foliage.
C. clandonensis 'Longwood Blue', 3 ft. - 5 ft. has lovely violet-blue flowers, is taller than the other cultivars and blooms over a slightly longer period.
C. clandonensis
'Worcester Gold' sports gold foliage which matures to a yellowish green.
C. clandonensis 'Heavenly Mist', shown, matures to 3 ft.
