COMMENTS:
Have patience with new clematis plants. They
require 2 to 3 growing seasons to develop strong
roots, but once established, all clematis are
magnificent. Be sure the roots are shaded from the
heat and the vines are in full sun. Where ever they
are grown, they need handle holds - a trellis, or
wall, or even through open shrubs and trees.
Provide a planting hole approximately 2 ft. square
and use a rich, humusy, moisture retentive soil.
Keeping the roots moist for the first few seasons
when the young plant may be overlooked is
important. C. Jackmanii blooms on new
growth, so it can be cut to soil level in the fall
for winter cleanup.
Clematis can be grouped into three types.
