COMMENTS: Extremely more hardy than the delicate foliage implies and related to Dicentra. Loose sprays of tubular, 1- to 2-inch flowers appear in May and bloom intermittently until frost. It will grow to full potential in light shade, although with fewer blooms. Use a moist, humusy soil. Is a prolific self-seeder. Transplant new starters as soon as they are identified in the spring if they need to be moved. Early spring growth for the first few weeks appears weak, but it suddenly flourishes and continues to spread throughout the summer. Use either as specimens throughout the beds, or as an edging around beds of tall, bold plantings.
