COMMENTS: A stately American native perennial equally dramatic as a lawn specimen or as a backdrop in the border bed. In the lawn, its location is hardly noticeable over winter as it dies down completely. It needs room as one plant can grow as wide as it is tall. View the growth process. Very attractive to butterflies and often covered with Swallowtails and Monarchs in late summer. Reliable and easy to grow in a rich, moist soil. The loose and airy flowerhead are 8- to 12-inches across. After a fall frost when the stems turn brittle, simply snap them off at soil level and discard.
Eupatorium purpureum var. maculatum 'Gateway', 4 ft. - 5 ft. has a lighter pink bloom.
