PRONOUNCED:
yoo-FOR-bee-uh grif-ITH-ee-ey
COMMON:
Griffith spurge, Spurge.
July
- Orange
COMMENTS:
A deciduous spurge, this is perhaps one of the
showiest of the species with its fiery bracts. New
leaf growth is pinkish turning mid-green. In the
fall, the foliage turns yellow and red. Once
established, it spreads to form a neat, mounded
colony. Although sold as a full sun plant,
protection from intense summer heat is advised as
sun stunts the growth. Provide a rich, damp soil.
Suggested cultivars:

E. griffithii 'Dexter' is more compact and
brick-red.
E. griffithii 'Fireglow'
has
interesting red stems and brilliant color.
