COMMENTS:
Its two, gray-green 1/4-inch leaves appear
pressed together at the base. The drooping 1-inch
flowers have outer petals much longer than the
green-rimmed inner cylinder. Naturalizes freely.
New plantings should be made in the fall in woodsy,
moist, well-drained, enriched soil. Suggested
cultivars:
G. nivalis 'Arnott's Seedling', fragrant,
robust and 6- to 10-inches tall.
G. nivalis 'Florae
Pleno'
is somewhat double.
G.nivalis lutescens, Instead of the usual
green, the markings on the petals are all replaced
by sulphur-yellow/
G. nivalis plenus (4") is a hard-to-find
double form.
