SIZE: 20 ft. - 40 ft.

TYPE: Deciduous to semi-evergreen vine

PRUNING: Prune as needed to check too vigorous growth. An excellent candidate for renovation pruning.

USE: Is unsurpassed at masking unsightly areas if given the correct support.

SOIL: Any well-drained soil.

COMMENTS: Individual plants seldom produce fruits. Cross pollination between a male and female is required for fruit formation. In late May, clusters of small purple night-blooming flowers release intense fragrance into the evening air, followed, if conditions for pollination are ideal, by large purple fruit pods later in the season.
Akebia quinata 'Five Leaf Akebia' produces
both male and female flowers.
